Re: My first quilt: looks much better in picture than real life. It was a kit quilt I inherited from my grandmother and started in 1959. It got put away after a full summer of cutting out the pieces, basting seam allowances, and pasting pieces to back. Finished and quilted in 1977. Re: Tobacco Leaf: This is machine applique, using the technique of Menaugh, Ralston, and Brackman. I already figured out to use paste for applique way back in 1959. I also loved designing clothes for 4" paper dolls, way back when, which has a lot in common with this applique technique.
