Woven blanket from western India.

Guatemalan Textile III

Love the embroidery snaking down the middle. That is how they join separate pieces of weaving. A decorative seam is more interesting than an invisible seam. Also like the diagonal setting.
Inspiration in restrained color, pattern, details.

Inspiration

If anyone needs inspiration, let me know. I can publish photos of Guatemalan textiles. I see almost too many ideas there. Time to try a few. Buffy

Wacky Quilt

January Sunshine

In 2006 I went to a quilt show in Aurora, Oregon. This quilt was one of 80 shown that were made by Aurora Colony women between 1860 and 1890. This particular quilt "...was made by Matilda Knight Stauffer, the first wife of Jacob Stauffer. We know the quilt was finished before 1867 because Matilda died giving birth to twins in April of that year."

Besides the vibrant and amazing color choices and the beautiful quilting, this is the perfect example of why we quilt. Here, some 143 years later, shines the work of her hand for us to see. It brightens any January day--no matter how dreary!!

All in my head!

It is amazing how just going through your old fabrics can re-inspire you! I have been busy sorting and rearranging my stash lately.. I found fabrics that I have not seen the day light in years!

Today I am able to see them through a different perspective..At least in my head!!!

I must have designed at least a dozen quilts in past couple of days.. So much so that I can not wait to get that machine all dusted off and start sewing. New combination of colors and textures dancing in my head only suggests one thing..

Yesterday, I was depressed for having too much fabric and today I am thankful for all that I have! After all, there are no good fabric stores and thrift stores in 30 minutes radius!!!

Happiness and sorrow.. it's all in my head! I just need to wait and see who shows up each day!!

Happy sewing my friends!
