Opening-Night-at-Seattle-Symphony Coat, more pictures

Process: First I strip pieced 2 1/2 in strips of batik, then quilted on the longarm using thin flannel as batt and a flower/leaf design. I then zig zagged fibers on each seam line. I made some of the fibers using decorative threads, ribbon floss, and yarns. After each fiber was sewn on I used that fiber to crochet 2 inches of lace at the bottom and on the 2 sides. I then stitched the coat according to the Lynda McPhee pattern (2 seams). I beaded the back seam line with leaf beads (small and large) and am now in the process of beading each of the strips with similar color beads as the center of each flower and seed beads on part of the stems and leaves.

December Meeting

Roberta brought a two-sided quilt she purchased in China, near the Great Wall.  This is just a portion of the quilt.

It had these little stuffed creatures sewn on.

This is a close up from the other side.  These blocks are each about 4 inches at most.

Then she pulled out this amazing coat!  She's making it for her sister.  She's used strips of batiks, and embellished the seams with yarn.

She's just begun applying beads to it.

Pam whipped up this little treasure since our last meeting.

And Patty showed us how she's been playing with scraps.

Miki answers a challenge

This was done as a challenge for Modern 8. We needed to go to http://www.design-seeds.com/p/palette-search.html and select a palette. From there, we selected fabric to match the palette. The object was to use all the colors in the chosen palette. Then we were to make a quilt, any size, in the style of Gees Bend quilters or Jean Wells. I selected the palette, Beaded Hues.
It was a really fun challenge, and I think I will do it again just for fun.
