Polyester Double Knit Quilt

Today was half-off-everything day at Goodwill. Couldn't pass that up, could I? I found this quilt, made entirely of polyester double knit. The price for this relic was a whopping $12.50.

I was trying to remember exactly when these fabrics were so popular. Then I found the 74 embroidered in the corner. I love those avocado yarn ties. The backing and binding are a polyester drapery fabric, in tasteful avocado also.

My grandmother used to teach "Sewing with Knits" at our local community college in Oregon. The class was very popular. She made all sorts of garments for the whole family. I remember a pink suit for my grandfather! I got swimsuits and bell-bottoms in every color of the rainbow.

Looks like Malti approves!

  1. What a great find! I love this quilt.
Bell-bottoms? I loved them when I was growing up. My cloths were a mix of traditional Indian cloths and frocks and bell-bottoms.. Oh those fun days!
Malti definitely looks happy to have the quilt!

  5. Polyester doubleknit really takes me back to the 70s! My mom was into sewing with them big time. I remember her buying the doubleknit with raised glitter designs on the fabric. I think she still has a box of them...lol! Thanks for sharing your find!

  6. What a trip! I not only remember those polyester doubleknits, I made my own pantsuits. Have the pictures to prove it. They NEVER wore out, so I must have given them to Goodwill. Maybe you have a piece of me in your quilt???? Hope so.
