This is so wonderful! Did she teach you? Did she sew her scraps onto a foundation? Hand or machine pieced? I want to know all about her and her methods!
I really like the curvy pieces in this pillow. And to tie it all up... bright red bow! Genius! Yes, did you learn the tricks from your grandmother? Was your mom a quilter too?
These are all hand sewn polyester down to a foundation. if you click to enlarge you can see all her "X" stitches... (and her sweet label) She was an arthritic invalid, and could not bend her fingers or her elbows, so sewing polyester was easier for her to get the needle through.
I grew up with her quilts on my beds. Everyone quilts or sews in my family... I learned to sew at a very young age with a glue sewing machine and my father has an Upholstery business and were farmers... we had to know how to do just about everything... ;-)
This is wonderful! We hated polyester, in it's day; and now we have a nostalgic attraction to it. I recall a T-shirt with the slogan, "may the word polyester never cross my lips." Nifty and I are trying to collect some for a project; but it is hard to find. It never fades, and lasts for ever. I like her mix of solids and prints.
