Rebel's Challenge, Nifty

Nifty used the challenge fabric in one of her Streak Of Lightening blocks, i.e. lower left corner.  Inspired by quilt in BOLD IMPROVISATIONS,  by Scott Heffley.  That quilt has inspired multiple Rebels quilts

Exciting start!  Another great workshop, sponsored by Two Thimbles, Bellingham, WA

Buffy takes a Gwen Marston Workshop on Small Quilts, 5/19/12

First, my favorite of Gwen's small quilts.

Second, Gwen and Buffy, with Buffy's small quilt.  Photographer, Nifty, says she sorry about the antler, but we were meeting in the Bellingham, WA, Elks Club.  My quilt was made from the scraps from the Carol Taylor workshop.  Still lots of scraps, of course.

Gwen had a list of the advantages of making small quilts.  To her list, I would add:  a good way to use batting scraps; and one can make just as many mistakes on a small quilt, moving one's learning curve along.

An amazing work of piecing and fabrics.  Rebels were all inspired, but doubt they will try this.  It took Nifty all winter.

Rebel Folk Artist: Mary

Mary's house is undergoing a major remodel.  She made these small quilts for the workers.  The one labeled "color" was for the designer.  He wanted to paint everything gray.  Mary was a first grade teacher in her previous life, a job requiring lots of creativity and imagination.

Dianne is doing complex portraits

Learned from books by Sue Carlson.....Fish first, then the sun in preparation for the portrait of my husband, whose nose is my challenge. I am also trying out different framing ideas. Fish is traditional framing, the Sun on stretcher bars.
