Lisa: Challenge Quilt

Artist’s statement:

Blue is my favorite color, but I couldn’t tell why. I suppose it speaks to me, maybe because I love winter and the light this season bring with it. The original painting by Gabriele Münter “Haus in Wintersonne” (1909) is typical scenery in the village of Murnau in the Bavarian Alps. Gabriele was Wassily Kandinsky’s girlfriend, and together with several other well-known artists, core members of the artist’s movement “Der Blaue Reiter”.

The challenge was to take a painting and to NOT replicate the painting, instead use the color palette only.
Lisa mentioned that the quilting lines reminded her of skiing.

Miki's Play Blocks and Quilts, January Rebels

The one on the top is the 15 Minute Play BOM quilt.  I made fabric from my Kaffe stash and used Kona Aqua for the background and a Kaffe shot cotton for the sashing and binding.  The idea for the BOM blocks was to use made fabric in more traditional blocks.
The bottom photo is my Intuition Quilt as part of the Intuition Quilt challenge on 15 Minute Play last year.  It was my first improvisational quilt, and I call it Self Portrait.  It has colors and blocks I love, and I just had great fun enjoying the process.

Nifty has been busy, thanks to snow days.

Applique started in workshop with Gwen Marston.  The rest come from the orphan block stash.

Started at a retreat with Bumble Beans using stash from Victoria and other participants.  This quilt was an exercise in trying out Victoria's Accu-cutter; as well as focusing on value for the design.

Star diamonds cut from "made fabric", using template from Gwen Marston.  Polka dots from stash, and plaid from sale shelf at Aunt Mary's Quilt shop in Smokey Point.

Flannel Baby Quilt by Nifty

She used some vintage flannel from making her son's baby clothes. It has a sock monkey back, really makes the quilt.

Pam's Christmas Composite

Several parts of this wall hanging come from different people so it is a creation of memories. Nifty from our group gave me the little Santa piece. The 5 stars were left over from a Buggy Barn class (Crazy Goose Chase pattern from their book Certifiably Crazy) and they were just waiting on my design wall for Santa to join them. The background and outer border are from my Christmas stash and the backing is from a friend who shared some fabric she inherited from her friend who passed away. The 5 snowflake buttons came from a box of buttons that belonged to a childhood friend's mother.
